Day #12 - Hippies and Cowboys

The first time I heard this song by Cody Jinks I told myself I had to learn it. To me, it’s the epitome of Outlaw Country. Jinks is from Fort Worth, TX, which is as outlaw as you can get. He was originally the lead singer of a thrash metal band called Unchecked Aggression. His switched to country in 2005 was a smart move in my opinion. Check him out on YouTube and you’ll see that he brought some of that metal attitude to his country music.

His style is in your face and unapologetic. Whiskey is a common lyric. He’s straight out of the bunkhouse on the Yellowstone ranch. John Dutton and Rip all rolled into one. This lyric says it best…

“I like two dollar beers, I like three dollar wells, at some old honkytonk bar that I know by the smell. Some old drunk on a barstool on a Merle Haggard tune, that's my kind of room”
