Day #11 - I’m Coming Home

In the last decade of my career with Starwood, I traveled extensively. As mentioned before Robert Earl Keen’s Live at the Ryman became one of my favorite collections of his songs. I had the whole CD downloaded to my iPhone so those songs went with me everywhere.

At some point I got in the habit of playing “I’m Coming Home” as my flight would take off for home. It didn’t matter where I was or where I’d been. I’d plug in the headphones and queue up the song. As soon as the pilot would hit the throttle and we would hurtle down the runway, I would press play. I know it sounds corny, but it was a good way for me to relax for the flight, no matter how long it was.

REK’s lyric says it all… “Ain’t nothin’ better than your own backyard. I’m comin’ home to you.”
