Would You Drive 3,200 Miles to Your High School Reunion?

About a year ago I got a message on “Class Creator” that my high school buddy Eric Van Boer was planning the Napa High School 50-year reunion. I immediately thought, this one I have to attend. Then, because we have this RV and we’re all about adventures, why not drive out there. It’s only 6,400 miles round trip. Why the hell not make it a SkyDog Adventure.

So the planning began last spring, even before we headed to Arkansas for the Vienna/Villagio Rally. By the time we had finished planning we had 29 nights with 31 planned stops. We headed out this morning west on I-84 to I-81 to I-80 west through Pennsylvania. From here we’re on through Ohio, Indiana and Illinois, to Iowa. We have a stop at the Field of Dreams Movie site, then on to South Dakota and Mt. Rushmore, followed by a stop at Devil’s Tower, Wyoming, and many points beyond. We’ll post details as we travel throughout our great country.

Tonight’s first stop is at Doolittle Station in Dubois, PA. Doolittle Station is part of the Harvest Host network which offers great places for RV’ers to stop for the night. You stay for free but are expected to spend a little money in the establishment’s retail and F&B outlets. Doolittle is an interesting little gathering of historic train cars, converted into a variety of dining and beverage options. There is the Boxcar Brewing company craft brewery, a Pizza car, a BBQ car, and a fine dining car. Our choice for dinner tonight was the “Angry Goat” restaurant and bar, where we enjoyed live music and some Axe throwing. Terri schooled me in Axe throwing in our 1st round, but we split the total with a tie and a win for me. We won’t hesitate to try this again.

Bull’s Eye…

The Angry Goat proved to be the best choice for dinner. Besides the Axe throwing, the menu was diverse and the outdoor seating in mild temps was perfect. The solo acoustic entertainment was perfect. The artist played a lot of my acoustic play list. We had a great dinner in a great atmosphere and were back in our little house by 9:00pm. A perfect day for the start of our journey across the country.

Stay tuned for more on this most excellent SkyDog Adventure.
