Sun Outdoors San Diego: A Relaxing Stay Near the City
When planning our visit this past September to San Diego to celebrate our daughter Darcie's 40th birthday, we chose to stay at Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay in Chula Vista. After spending five nights there, we can confidently say it was an excellent decision. This RV park offers a beautiful and well-maintained environment with plenty of amenities to enhance your stay. Here’s our detailed review.
Location and Accessibility
Sun Outdoors San Diego is conveniently located in Chula Vista, just off the I-5 freeway. This makes it an ideal base for exploring San Diego’s beaches and major attractions. The location was perfect for our visit, allowing us to easily travel to and from events and sightseeing spots. Despite its proximity to the freeway, the park felt secure and peaceful, thanks to its gated and well-monitored facility.
Campsite Features
Our back-in site provided great privacy
The RV park features spacious and level concrete pads for both back-in and pull-through RV sites, all equipped with full hookups. In addition to RV sites, they offer one- and two-bedroom cabins for guests who don’t have their own rigs. Each campsite includes a propane fire pit, with propane available for a fee—a nice touch for cozy evenings outdoors.
Amenities and Services
This RV park is packed with amenities that cater to both families and seniors. Here are some highlights:
Pool and Bar: The pool area was a standout, featuring a bar with light food offerings—a great spot to relax after a day of sightseeing.
Playground: There’s a well-designed playground that kids will love, making it a family-friendly destination.
Clean Facilities: The restrooms and showers were spotless, and the overall cleanliness of the park was impressive.
Entertainment Options: Cable TV and Wi-Fi are available (though we didn’t use the Wi-Fi during our stay).
Maintenance: The grounds were beautifully maintained, reflecting the care and attention of the staff.
Huge pool with cabanas for rent, splash pad and plenty of space to relax and take in the San Diego sun
Safety and Security
The gated entry and secure facility made us feel very safe throughout our stay. It’s clear that Sun Outdoors prioritizes guest safety, which is especially important as we are seniors.
Convenience for Exploring San Diego
One of the biggest advantages of staying here was its convenience. We could easily travel to birthday celebrations and explore the attractions San Diego has to offer. The location’s accessibility added to the overall ease and enjoyment of our trip.
